Your Questions Answered About The Fields Of Law

Hello, my name is Susan Farris and my hobby is learning about the law. I have an uncle who is an attorney and I've always looked up to him and that's why I find subjects on law very interesting. Through speaking with my uncle and doing research on my own, I've learned about all the different fields of law. Each field of law centers on its own subject and most attorneys specialize in a certain area of law. These include criminal, personal injury, family, bankruptcy, criminal, immigration and business. I find each one of these fields very interesting and I have the utmost admiration for lawyers because they help people through their legal struggles. I wanted to share this information with others who have questions about the different types of attorneys and the law.

Dogs, Dog Bites, And You: Who Pays?

Law Blog

Ask any personal injury lawyer about dog bites, and there is a good chance that they will need to know all the details before they can even answer your question. Because every dog bite incident is fairly unique in its circumstances, nothing can be determined by answering a broad question on the topic. In your case, if you suffered a dog bite injury at a dog park, here is some info to help you determine who pays for your injuries.

Were You There with Your Own Dog?

Were you there at the dog park with your own dog? This sometimes plays into how people end up with a dog bite, and it may play into your case as well. If you did have a dog there, did your dog try to go after someone else's dog or did another dog come after your dog?

You should never try to separate two fighting dogs because it almost always results in a dog bite incident. If you stuck your hand in between your dog while it was in a fight with another dog and you were bit, you may have to absorb the medical costs for you, but you can still sue for your dog's injuries. You would sue the owner of the aggressive dog. (If your dog was the aggressor, and you got bit by the other dog, all the expenses may land on you.)

If You Were There Sans Dog, Why or How Did You Get Bit?

Some people go to a dog park because they love seeing all the dogs. Other people go to a dog park with friends who are walking and playing with their own dogs. Whatever the reason, it will come up in your case/hearing as to why you were there and how you got bit.

If you did not have a dog of your own in the park, the judge will want to know what you were doing there. If sustained a dog bite injury, the judge is going to want to know exactly what happened that led up to the injury. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can happen, and being bit by a dog that is off-leash and suddenly decides that it does not like you and wants to attack is exactly that sort of situation. The breed of the dog may also play a part, especially if the breed of dog is a well-known aggressive type of dog. Then the owner of the offending dog has to pay for all of your medical bills.
