I find each one of these fields very interesting and I have the utmost admiration for lawyers because they help people through their legal struggles. I wanted to share this information with others who have questions about the different types of attorneys and the law.
If you are ever involved in a car accident, you may not realize how much the actions that you perform while still at the site of the accident can affect your accident case. If your auto accident attorney were present with you during the accident, he or she would likely direct you concerning your actions immediately following the event. Here are a few things that he or she would probably tell you to do:
Take pictures of the accident scene and of the vehicles involved.
Using your cell phone, you could quickly take photographs of the scene of the accident and of any damages incurred by the cars or trucks involved. The images would serve as an event record, which would be difficult to dispute.
The scene of the accident can give clues about how the accident occurred. For instance, skid marks in the road would indicate that a vehicle was attempting to stop before the accident occurred. If the skid marks go through a stop sign, it is unlikely that the motorist operating the vehicle stopped at the sign.
The damages sustained by the vehicles involved in the accident should also be present on the pictures. This can make the damages to your car or truck indisputable by the insurance company that will be responsible for paying for your damages.
Record the names and numbers of people who witnessed the accident.
After a car accident, it can be difficult to locate people who witnessed the event. It is best to obtain names and phone numbers before you leave the scene of the accident. Your car accident attorney can later contact the witnesses to help build your car accident case.
Don't spend time conversing with adjusters.
When a large amount of money could be at stake, such as in situations that involve a commercial vehicle, an adjuster may quickly show up at the accident scene. He or she may ask you questions or try to converse with you. Your attorney would likely discourage any interaction between you and the adjuster because the things that you say can be used to lessen the amount of compensation that will be offered to you.
The adjuster may ask questions about your health or well-being. He or she may also ask exactly what occurred during the accident. All of the statements that you make are likely to be recorded and can be misconstrued during the settlement process. For instance, if the adjuster questions how you are feeling and you respond that you are okay, that could indicate that the injuries sustained from the accident are not serious.
